“A casting call is won or lost before you speak a single syllable. Your posture walking through the agency door tells the casting director everything they need to know.” — Atharva Sharma // Ref: ATH-26-15

I. The Pressure Cooker of Fashion Week Castings

During the peak casting weeks of Milan, Paris, and Mumbai, a single casting director may evaluate up to 800 models in a nine-hour window. Each model receives between 30 and 90 seconds to present their comp card, walk a mini-runway, and step before a ring light for digitals.

In such high-throughput environments, preparation is not an advantage; it is survival. One wrinkled shirt, an outdated comp card, or sluggish body language guarantees an immediate pass.

In assets/images/atharva-mirror-selfie.jpg, we capture the raw backstage reality of a mirror check before heading into an agency review.

II. The Standard Casting Uniform (Wardrobe Essentials)

Never arrive at a fashion casting wearing loud branding, complex patterns, or theatrical costumes. Casting directors want a blank canvas upon which they can project their brand’s collection.

The international gold-standard male casting uniform:

  • Top: Plain, perfectly fitted black or white crewneck t-shirt. High-thread-count organic cotton without logos. Sleeves should hit mid-bicep to show arm definition without being skin-tight.
  • Bottom: Slim-straight raw black denim or charcoal tailored trousers. Hem should sit flush on footwear without accordion bunching.
  • Footwear: Clean, sleek black leather Chelsea boots or minimalist low-profile sneakers. Polish them before arriving.
  • Outerwear (Seasonal): A sharp, unadorned black wool overcoat or clean minimalist leather jacket that can be swiftly hung upon entering.

III. Grooming and Skin Prep: The Non-Negotiables

HD cameras and unfiltered daylight casting lamps reveal every grooming oversight:

  1. Hydration and Sleep: Drink minimum 3 liters of water for 48 hours preceding casting calls. Dehydrated skin looks dull, sunken, and exaggerates dark under-eye circles.
  2. Hair Maintenance: Clean, product-free hair (or minimal matte sea-salt spray). The director needs to see hair texture and movement.
  3. Facial Hair Protocol: Clean-shaven is default unless agency explicitly books you for defined designer stubble. If stubble, ensure cheek and neck lines are crisply defined.
  4. Hands and Nails: Trimmed, clean fingernails. Hands frequently appear in beauty checks and accessory test shots.

IV. The 60-Second In-Room Protocol

When your name is called, execute this disciplined sequence:

  • 0:00 – 0:10: Enter with confident eye contact, erect posture, and a concise greeting: “Good morning, I’m Atharva with [Agency].” Hand your physical comp card directly to the booking assistant.
  • 0:10 – 0:30: When asked to walk, hit your mark without delay. Walk out 15 steps with steady, rhythmic cadence. Turn cleanly, hold the camera pit for two beats, and return.
  • 0:30 – 0:50: Stand on the digital mark for polaroids: front headshot, profile left, profile right, full-length front, full-length back. Keep expression relaxed and still.
  • 0:50 – 0:60: Thank the casting director genuinely, retrieve your personal bag, and exit with the same poise you entered.
